Facial pigmentation may result from ageing, sun damage, acne and your genetic predisposition. It can leave patches of uneven skin tone, that can be difficult to mask. Effective treatment begins with a Dermatologist assessment, in order to identify the type of pigmentation you may have, and the most appropriate treatment option for you. At Southern Dermatology, we employ the Cutera Excel V+ to address skin pigmentation with excellent results.
The award-winning Excel V+ laser incorporates two proven wavelengths that allow the laser to treat pigmentation and skin rejuvenation. The more superficial 532nm wavelength is highly absorption by melanin, such that it an ideal choice for the treatment of benign (harmless) pigmented lesions.
Pigment laser works by targeting melanin, the pigment that gives the skin its colour. Melanin is produced by melanocytes, and may be overproduced due to a number of reasons such as excessive sun exposure, acne, hormones or allergy. It makes the skin appear darker than the surrounding areas. Melanin readily absorbs the 532nm wavelength of light. The Excel V+ laser selectively targets and destroy lesions that result from increased melanin production.
The Excel V+ can improve several benign pigmented lesions, including:
Genetic freckles
Sun freckles (solar lentigines)
Flat wisdom spot and liver spots (seborrheic keratosis)
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra
